AMA: the challenge with getting older (online)
Answering your questions about friendship breakups, personal style, and the hardest parts of my job
What is it like growing up on the internet?
Awkward, wild, and fun? It was such a different time, but it felt positive and supportive, which I loved. It helped me hone so much of myself: my writing, my style, my editing skills, how to work for things I wanted, etc.
Why do you now paywall your work?
It’s a fair question, and I thought a lot about it before deciding to put some of my work behind a paywall. The media landscape has changed so much since I started. Back then, I could rely on static ads and brand partnerships to make a living. But as platforms have shifted and algorithms have taken over, it’s become harder to create meaningful, thoughtful content and also have it be sustainable.
Substack has given me the chance to slow down a bit and focus on writing that feels more personal and reflective. Charging for some of that work has helped me protect the time and energy it takes to create it. It’s also helped me better understand the value of what I share.
I completely understand that not everyone can (or wants to) pay for content. I’ll always offer free posts each month and continue to share regularly on Instagram. However you choose to support me (reading, commenting, subscribing), it all means so much to me. I’m truly grateful you're here.
