G officially became the first employee of cupcakes and cashmere in 2012, just a few months after our honeymoon, though he’d been an integral part of the company from the beginning. He was the one who introduced me to blogging when he started his own about scotch, appropriately called…About Scotch. The scope ended up being a bit too narrow, which is one of the main reasons why, from the very beginning, I covered various topics.
We used to spend hours driving all over the city chasing the perfect photo locations - deserted diners, rickety old gas stations, abandoned train tracks. The more random, the better. We had a complicated love/hate relationship with our shoots. On good days, it felt like magic; working creatively together was exhilarating. When I was happy with the pictures - the outfits, the poses, the background, and the lighting, I felt an incredible sense of relief.
At the time, I posted on the blog five days a week and never worked more than a day ahead as I'm about as disorganized as they come. So when we got it right, I could relax knowing the next day’s post was taken care of.

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. There was plenty of bickering during our shoots; I’ll admit, about 99% of it was my fault. I was constantly stressed, overwhelmed by procrastination, and unsure how to improve things. Meanwhile, G had a full-time job as a Media Planner but would graciously give up any breaks he had to help if he could. He was my photographer, IT support, and emotional support system, all wrapped in one. So it was only natural (at least to us!) that he'd come to work with me when it made sense financially.
